Use of the etracker consent manager

With integrated consent and tag management, etracker offers a simple and practical all-in-one solution for managing consent and also for controlling third-party tags conveniently and in compliance with data protection regulations.

Video tutorial

Our video tutorial provides a brief introduction to how it works and how to set it up:

Setting up the etracker consent manager

Type of consent for etracker analytics

As a rule, when using etracker analytics, only the activation of analytical cookies requires the prior consent of website visitors. If a balancing of interests, e.g. due to individually configured data enrichment or the transfer of data to third parties, means that the interests of the website operator do not prevail, data processing with etracker analytics can be linked to consent. In this case, select the Tracking Opt-In option.

Here you can set the type of consent you want to obtain with the etracker consent manager

Dialog type

Select whether the consent dialog should appear in the form of a banner at the bottom of the screen or a narrower box. The box can be positioned on the left, right, top or bottom. In addition, the content of the actual website can be blocked and darkened. This forces interaction with the content dialog.

Here you define in the etracker consent manager whether your consent should be displayed as a banner or box and where it should be positioned on your website

Design & Text

All colors and texts can be edited directly in the preview and adapted to your own website or corporate design.

Here you define the design of your consent in the etracker consent manager

Simply click on the respective element to view the editing options or change texts. The background color can be adjusted via the display above the dialog. Use the language switch to switch between the languages previously selected using the + sign.

You can use the language switch to toggle between the previously selected languages

Be sure to check the links to further cookie information, privacy policy and imprint by clicking on the entries and the respective link symbol.

To check the links simply click on the link symbol

You can use the Edit reject button function to edit the label of the reject button in the “No category requiring consent selected” status. By default, the label changes from “Reject all” to “Allow selection” when purposes are selected.

Here you can edit the label of the reject button
Please note
  • The sliders for non-required purposes are set to OFF live by default. In the editor, however, they are set to ON to enable editing of the colors.
  • As soon as third-party tags are added to the etracker tag manager for marketing or functional purposes, these purpose categories are also displayed live and in the preview.

To return all colors and texts to their original state, click on Reset to default values in the top right-hand corner of the section.

If several language versions have been selected, you can decide which language appears by default: either according to the browser settings of the respective visitor or according to the selection. The arrow for changing the default language appears on mouseover.

Here you specify whether the consent should always be displayed in a specific language first, or whether it should be displayed automatically according to the language setting in the browser

To display your own logo in the dialog, adjust the branding option.

If you would like to use your own logo in the Consent dialog, you can do so here.

With Hide, you do not display a logo, which makes the dialog display slimmer and can therefore speed it up.

Trigger to withdraw consent

Now configure the option for visitors to adjust their consent at a later date. According to Art. 7 para. 3 sentence 4 GDPR, it must be possible to withdraw consent just as easily as to give it. This can be achieved either via a floating button or a link in the footer of the website. As a floating button, a separate image can optionally be selected as an icon.

Here you can configure that the visitor can easily revoke their consent again

Block and release external content

If third-party services are used on the website to display content such as videos or maps, it is important to prevent the automatic setting of cookies and the transmission of data to third-party services without prior consent and to give visitors the option of enabling selected content.

Simply add “data-cb” in front of the source URL to your embedded link. Example: data-cb-src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/... instead of src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/...

In this example, such a dialog appears on the website instead of the YouTube video for visitors who have not previously consented:

The etracker consent manager allows you to share external content separately, such as YouTube videos

Texts and design can be adjusted in the editor in the same way as in the content dialog.

The design for obtaining approval for external content can also be easily configured

Activate consent function

You can use the status button to activate the consent dialog with all the settings you have made.

You can activate the consent dialog via the status button on the left side of the etracker consent manager.

This will display the consent dialog directly on your website, provided your etracker code is correctly integrated.

Consent protocol

When the consent dialog is activated, all consents are properly logged and can be easily downloaded in the event of inquiries from data subjects or the supervisory authorities.

All consents that can be obtained via the etracker consent manager are logged and can be downloaded via the application.
